two are better than one.

i am sure that every person on the face of the earth has an opinion about that little snippet of scripture found in ecclesiastes, and of course, written by the wisest man EVER (of course Christ doesn't count in that statement), king soloman. son of david and bathsheba. yes, bathsheba, bathsheba. not the first son. the lord took him on account of david's sin. soloman came later, but, yes, from bathsheba which i always found interesting.
well here was my opinion today when i headed into old stone fort state archaelogical park:
'one' stinks.
and the impact of a very-super-wise man telling me that 'two is better than one' when the truth is that that very man had a documented 700 wives and 300 concubines -- seems nothing short of frustrating today.
i had my camera and headed into the woods, which yes, seemed a little scary at first to me. the sun was half way in the trees and thinking about setting. the site was an ancient burial ground for the american indians dating back as far as 2000 years. still a far cry later than king soloman but basically the same time as Christ on a very distant continent.
no, nothing scary really happened. no bears. no snakes. no deer even. no scrawny, scairy man with a plaid shirt waiting under a big tree for single (stupid) female taking pictures of waterfalls. there was a solitary cigarette butt that seemed a little out of place. but i got scared. or smart. or something like that and headed back to the clearing. something about being in the middle of the woods surrounded by creepy, dead indians and possibly hiding perverts was a bit scary. why does state park cry out loud to me: single woman trek not alone. its humbing to feel helpless.
i got in my car and started driving home and was simply frustrated. sure, i am probably a bit more paranoid (or as i like to see it, more aware of the possibilities) than most females. but when you have a history of interesting situations finding you, you start to wise up a little in order to avoid them before trouble finds you. i trust completely that God has a full purpose for my life and has all power to protect me -- but being stupid and disobedient can have its own consequences.
so earlier today i had this great idea to print off a map of all of the state parks in tennessee. i was going to start marking them off one by one and hanging a picture of the welcome sign. eek. not sure now. because two are better than one walking through a state park taking pictures. and i am just one.
(included above is one of the few pictures that i did get.)

hey glad you could use the guy's survival guide to girl movies. i do think i remember bounce, girls husband dies on a plane and guy who randomly met him on the plane falls for her. tryout the tiger in the snow. forgien film, subtitles on this one are horrible. they are done in a way it makes it hard to read, but it's worth it. should have learned french. so your making a movie of your own then. girl lost in woods, slasher type. or more of the angry dead indians blair witch thing. either way be careful i suppose. though i miss the walks through tennessee woods myself.
Hi Bek...I felt something in this post today. Not sure what, but something in your words tugged something in my soul. All I can really say is that I think sometimes half of two can feel very much like one.
maria, my sister (though very happily married and now a mother of two) has told me the same thing.
beautifully written last line, maria. tugged at pieces of me. humbled me.
Wow, now I'm depressed!
nothing to be depressed about. i am not depressed, and i wrote it. every once in a while i'd just like 'back-up' thats all.
