hotel rwanda

... just watched hotel rwanda. a lot of times when i watch a movie that has this much power to impact (my emotions, etc.) i don't want to talk about it. but, i have definite thoughts after watching this. of course, there were implications related to the war in iraq. people complain all of the time that we are getting into other people's business and that it isn't our job to police the world. to those people, i kinda want to say -- watch this movie. see if you feel the same dead-ness to people that are innocently slaughtered -- when you have the power to act on their behalf. but secondly, i thought, "choose your mate well." my friend andy who watched the movie with meghan and i said to me, "what do you mean?" i repeated myself, "choose your mate well." again, he asked what i meant. i am not sure how to say it differently, but for me, as this world gets darker, and things get much, much tougher, i want someone standing beside me who is ready to stand and fight with me. the relationship between husband and wife in this movie was something to watch closely. gosh, and for those of you who have seen it, when he leaves her and the kids on the vans. wow. and then comes back and she throws her ring at him. wow. i don't know what to say. i am afraid that i would feel exactly like she did -- like he left her. i have no answer, but it was very moving. the dynamics of that family were very moving. last of all, i thought about kids. and it is one thing that he and his wife went through this 'hell on earth' together, but the children. i almost had thoughts of not wanting to have children. in order not to watch them subjected to what these kids were. anyway, it is late, but i wanted to say some of that while it was on my mind. goodnight.

Interesting that you blogged about this...reading your thoughts yesterday reminded me that I'd heard of that movie and wanted to see it. We had planned on watching a movie last night so I convinced Steve to get this one...wow...I need to do some blogging about it myself, to process.
