small things that make me smile
i haven't been feeling well lately -- a sad realization after hanging on tightly through this strange, moody weather that seems to make everyone sick. yesterday, i wanted so badly to leave work early -- and felt a little guilty about wanting my patients to cancel. when you work in healthcare, there is a tricky line of when you should go home and when you should work. the people who walk in the door are already sick and trust me not to complicate the situation. i left one room for a quick second and hid in the bathroom to take my temperature. it didn't reflect how i felt.
i went home after work and made some soup and a grilled cheese sandwhich. haven't had grilled cheese in forever. reminds me of college and a friend.
later i needed to go to murfreesboro to run some errands and to find a pretty specific gift for a friend. i kept a roll of toilet paper next to me in the car, blowing my nose -- being generally disgusting. feeling completely yuck. i couldn't find what i needed in murfreesboro and made the decision to hurry over to franklin before barnes and noble closed. after making my purchase, i went to starbucks and ordered a tall decaf coffee and a chocolate chip cookie.
when i ordered, i couldn't hear myself talk... well, and i could barely talk. the guy across the counter said, "to go?" he was attentive -- maybe more than normal. but not annoying.
"yes, thank you."
i sipped on my (perfect) black cup of coffee. he took a little long getting my cookie and then handed me a small white lunch sak with the top folded down. i reached, "thank you."
and he said, "you're welcome. have a good night."
simple. i know.
the bag seemed a little heavy. i got in my car, started it, and then opened the bag. there were two cookies and lots of napkins.
for whatever reason, the starbucks guy almost made me cry.

Awwww, Bek! What a great story! How nice to know there are still nice people in the world. I hope you feel better soon! :)
That is a nice story... funny enough, I was in Starbucks on Tuesday, where I ordered a grande strawberries and cream frappucino. For whatever reason, the guy gave me the next size larger! I don't know if it's because I looked pathetic and pregnant, but it made my day. Maybe it's a new thing Starbucks is trying out??? Hope you feel better soon :)
