language sLACKer

Los idiomas corresponden a las necesidades de quienes los hablan y, si a un idioma le falta una palabra, es porque le falta un concepto o, mejor dicho, un sentimiento. (Victoria Ocampo)

Languages fit the needs of those who speak them, and if a language lacks a word, it is because it lacks a concept or, better put, a feeling. (Victoria Ocampo)

okay, folks. how many times do i complain that i cannot express what i am thinking. well, the problem could be one of many things. for starters, it could be me and my total and utter lack of competence with the english language. solution: i could try my luck at another language. i have/am trying that... but i have heard that the english language actually excels in having multiple words to convey a thought. solution #2 for the same problem: i could actually go back to school and sit in on an english-as-a-first-language class...

okay, y problemo numero segundo (somebody just laugh at my crappy spanish please -- my bro in law would be ashamed of me...), the words just simply aren't out there for what i am feeling. solution: i start making more words up.

... i am liking plan B. lots of people do this already, why can't i? i mean, my mom for example does it all of the time, and a certain PT professor that many of us have grown to love... well, and then there was a slightly-well-known bloak named shakespeare. who ever coined the word "coining" a word, anyway? and what is the word for when someone with a neurological impairment makes up words? ...see, they do it too.

REBEKAH!!!

How absolutely delighted I am to stumble upon your blog today. I have discovered so many IWU alums' blogs over the last few weeks but didn't find yours until just now--I saw Nick had added it to his links. Read through your archives a bit and just smiled. (And laughed out loud at the image of Korb with a mullet...and how adorable Tanya must be! I hear of them through Stephanie Longbrake now and then but haven't seen them in years.)

So wonderful to hear you write again! I have thought of you many random times over the last year or so, wondering where you are and what you're up to. And now I feel reconnected. I am a transplanted Tennessean now...how far is Chattanooga from Nashville???

I'm trying to break into editing here...if you ever need someone to read your stuff again, now you know where to find me, and it would still be my privilege :)

Would love to get back in touch with you! Email me if you have a chance: it's just my "firstnamelastname@hotmail".

Much love to you! What a fun surprise for a Wednesday morning.
